Owls Drop Twinbill to Southern, 8-0 and 10-5

Klamath Falls, Ore. – Southern Oregon University pounded out 27 hits in a Cascade Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader sweep over host Oregon Tech today at the Softball Complex in Klamath Falls. The Owls dropped game one 8-0 and lost 10-5 in the nightcap. Oregon Tech fell to 13-12 on the year and 3-5 in conference play. Southern Oregon upped their season mark to 11-10, while moving to 7-1 in league action.

Strohm Fouty led the game off for SOU with a triple and would eventually come around to score, giving the Raiders a 1-0 advantage. SOU strung together four-straight hits in the fourth inning, including three doubles, pushing across four Raider runs to break the game open and lead 5-0. The Raiders added two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh, holding the Owls scoreless, and win game one by the final of 8-0.

Tech’s Andria Wheatley, Katie King, Bess Fagan and Jenny Austin all singled, while Kayde Schaeffer picked up a double in the first game.

SOU’s Jordyn Kurtz picked up the win for SOU and was a perfect 4-4 at the plate in game #1. Bailey Price finished 2-3, including a solo homerun and two-run double. Meghan Laughlin came away with two hits and two RBI, including a solo homerun in the fifth inning.

Justine Fulton put the Raiders up early in game two with a two-run homerun in the second inning.

The Owls came right back with back-to-back doubles by Bess Fagan and Jenny Austin cut the Owls deficit to 2-1.

Ricci Coultan led off the SOU third inning with a double and eventually scored to put the Raiders up 3-1.

Brittany Warren led off the fourth inning with a single and move to third on an Ashleigh Larson double. Schaeffer then singled up the middle, plating both Owl runners and tied the contest at 3-3.

SOU then came up with four hits in the fifth that helped push across two runs to take a 5-3 lead. SOU pitcher Jordyn Kurtz again helped her cause, driving in three runs on a one out triple to give the Raiders an 8-3 advantage. Kurtz scored on an RBI sacrifice fly to give the Raiders a 9-3 lead.

An RBI single by Tech’s Amber Sinicrope cut the Raider lead to 9-4, and a SOU error gave the Owls a run and a bases loaded situation that brought the tying run to the plate. The Owls, however, were unable to capitalize and headed to the seventh inning still down by four runs.

SOU tacked on an insurance run, doubling their lead to 10-5, and the Owls could not mount a rally in the seventh inning, losing by the same 10-5 final.

Jenny Austin was 2-4 for the Owls and picked up an RBI in the nightcap. Kayde Schaefer finished 2-3 at the plate and drove in two runs in game # 2.

Kurtz improved to 11-10, picking up both wins for SOU, while adding two more hits and four RBI in the nightcap. Danielle Stratton was 3-4 with an RBI.
