PORTLAND, Ore.—The Portland Rain, the newest addition to the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) with its inaugural season beginning in May 2009, has announced that four players with Concordia ties have made its opening roster.

Among the 27 selections to its initial roster were 2006 CU graduate Katie Lind, 2009 graduates Jackie and Justine Pronovost and 2009 senior Georgie Christensen.

“It is exciting to see former and current Cavaliers have a chance to play in this league," Concordia head coach Grant Landy said. "For Katie, Jackie and Justine, I am happy for them to be able to continue playing competitive soccer at a high level. For Georgie, this will give her consistent training and games over the summer in preparation for her senior season in the fall.”

The Rain’s 2009 inaugural season kicks off May 3 versus Seattle Synergy at Hillsboro Stadium. The 2009 Portland Rain includes a number of standout players who have committed to bringing competitive women's soccer to the spotlight in the Portland area. Some key players to sign with the Rain include M/F Allison Williams, who was the 2005 SEC Player of the Year at the University of Georgia; former Oregon class 4A Player of the Year Melissa Beal; and current Cameroon National Team member Ngum Suh.

"I'm extremely pleased with the roster we have put together and the great talent that we had to choose from," said interim coach Stan Rodrigues. "We have a number of decorated players who came out of strong college programs from all over the country, and I believe this team will gel very well. We will have to work extremely hard to get to the level that the organization wants to be at, but with the group we have here, I think we can definitely head in the right direction."
