Owls Take Two From Eastern
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore – Oregon Tech’s Becca Anderson scattered six hits in the opener and freshman pitcher Amber Knight held the Mountaineers to only two hits in the nightcap, as the Oregon Tech softball team swept a doubleheader over Eastern Oregon, 4-2 and 8-0, today at the Softball Complex in Klamath Falls. The Owls improved to 21-18 overall and even at 11-11 in the conference standings.
Oregon Tech started the scoring in game one when Sunceray Titus connected for a two-run double, scoring Jenny Austin and Bree Larson, to make it 2-0. A Kayde Schaefer sacrifice fly scored Brittany Warren, who earlier doubled and advanced to third, to make it 3-0.
Eastern then rallied for two runs in the fifth inning. A lead-off single followed by a triple by Samantha Pedro cut the Mountaineer deficit to 3-1. A Krista Kountz sacrifice fly then drove in Pedro to make it a 3-2 game.
Kayde Schaefer then connected on her first career homerun for Tech in the sixth inning, doubling the Owl lead, 4-2. The Owls then held EOU scoreless in the seventh to post the 4-2 win.
Both teams went scoreless through the first three innings of the nightcap before the Owls were able to plate five runs in the fourth. Ashleigh Larson singled to drive in the Owls’ first run. Amber Sincrope followed with a two run single, and then a two run double by Jenny Austin gave the Owls a 5-0 advantage.
Bess Fagan drove in Warren in the bottom of the Owl fifth, making the score 6-0. Andria Wheatley then drove in Fagan, giving the Owls a 7-0 lead. With runners on second and third, a fielder’s choice by Amber Sinicrope ended the game to give the Owls an 8-0 win and the sweep.
Ashleigh Larson and Suneray Titus finished with three hits each, with Titus adding two RBI and Larson one. Sincrope drove in three runs on two hits, while Austin and Schaefer tallied two hits and two RBI apiece. Fagan and Warren ended the day with two hits, while Fagan drove in one run in the nightcap.
Becca Anderson gave up six hits in game one and improved to 12-6 on the year. Amber Knight moved to 5-5 with her two-hit shutout in game two.
Kimmy Peterson was 2-3 at the plate for EOU in game one, while Ashleigh Byrne picked up a hit in each game. Samantha Pedro and Krista Kountz accounted for both Mountaineer RBI on the afternoon.
