Three Sign To Play Women's Basketball At Southern Oregon
ASHLAND, ORE. - Three high school seniors have signed National Letters of Intent to play women’s basketball at Southern Oregon next year.
Corvallis High School’s Gabe Johnson, Crescent Valley’s Molly Doran and Rogers (Puyallup, Wash.) High School’s Julia Nix will all play for the Red and Black during the 2009-10 season.
Johnson comes to SOU after an impressive high school career at Corvallis High. Johnson, a 5-6 point guard, averaged 15 points as a senior and was named the Mid-Willamette Conference’s Player of the Year and All-State. Johnson led Corvallis to a 23-4 record and a fourth place finish at the Oregon State Championships.
Johnson also was named the conference’s Player of the Year and named All-State as a junior after going for 13 points per-game and earned All-Conference honors as a sophomore.
Doran, a 5-11 guard, averaged 13 points at Crescent Valley last year and was named All Mid-Willamette. Doran was also voted All-Conference as a junior after scoring 12 points per-game.
Doran’s sisters both just finished playing NCAA Division I basketball. Elizabeth played at Santa Clara and Emily played at Idaho.
Nix, a 6-1 post, averaged 13 points and earned South Puget Sound League honors as a senior. Nix was also picked to play in the “Queens of the Hardwood” All-Star Classic and led her Rogers High School team to a 14-9 record and an appearance in the district playoffs.
Nix was also an All-Conference pick as a sophomore.
Southern Oregon went 25-7 this past season and returns everyone except seniors Rhiannon Dickison and Kellyn Cooper.
