PORTLAND, Ore. – Concordia University, which won or shared seven Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season championships this past academic year, has earned the 2008-09 CCC All-Sports Trophy, given annually to the most successful athletics program in the 11-member conference.

The Cavaliers, who last won the crown in 2006-07, totaled 158 points to edge runner-up College of Idaho (150) and third-place finisher Eastern Oregon (131). Southern Oregon (126) and Oregon Tech (122) rounded out the top five.

Points are awarded based on regular season conference finishes in a maximum of eight sports.

Concordia won or shared regular season CCC titles in men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s track, and women’s track, and posted runner-up finishes in men’s cross country and women’s cross country.

Eight Concordia teams advanced to NAIA postseason play during the year, led by a runner-up national finish by the women’s soccer team and ninth-place finishes by the men's cross country and men's soccer teams. CU’s women’s golf team is currently competing in the NAIA Championships in South Dakota, and the men’s and women’s track and field teams are seeking top 10 finishes at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships next week in St. Louis.

Said CU athletics director Matt English, “Concordia is blessed to have a tremendous group of coaches and student-athletes. This achievement is truly a testament to their talent, hard work and dedication. We are extremely proud to receive the All-Sports Trophy for the Cascade Collegiate Conference, one of the premier conferences in the NAIA.”

In finishing second in the All-Sports scoring race, College of Idaho captured regular season titles in volleyball, women’s cross country, women’s basketball (shared) and softball, and had runner-up finishes in women’s soccer, women’s golf, and baseball.
