Concordia Continues Climb: Up to Eighth at NAIA Women's Golf Championships

RAPID CITY, S.D.–After finishing the opening round in 12th place, the Concordia women’s golf team moved up the leaderboard on consecutive days as the Cavaliers posted a 325 in the third round to improve to eighth place at the NAIA Championships held at Meadowbrook Golf Course on Thursday.
Concordia (326-329-325—980) cut four strokes off their score from yesterday to move ahead of Lewis-Clark State (319-335-328—982) in the team standings. The Cavs remain in contention to pass several teams in the finale on Friday. Berry (322-328-327—977) finished the day in seventh with a three-stroke advantage over CU while CSU San Marcos (321-333-318—972) holds an eight-stroke lead over the Cavs.
In its second season of a varsity program and its first appearance in postseason play, Concordia had its best showing at the NAIA championships in 2005 with an eighth-place finish.
Four-time defending champion Oklahoma City (302-311-302—915) continued to build upon its lead with its second 14-over 302 of the tournament, generating a 24-stoke gap on the field. Bethel (303-330-306—939) holds down the runner-up spot, four strokes ahead of third-place Embry Riddle (315-320-307—942).
After firing a team-low 5-over 77 on Wednesday, CU’s Lindsay Aho returned with a 78 on for a three-round score of 22-over 238. Aho (84-77-78—238) will enter the final round of competition in 22nd place. Aho holds the school’s best finish at the national championships with a 13th-place result last season.
Concordia’s No.2 golfer through three rounds, Holly Speer (84-82-81—247) dropped her individual score for the second straight day to crack the top 50. Sara Taylor (81-85-83—247), split the difference between her first two rounds with an 83 to enter the final day in 54th place. Kim Tilton (85-85-83—253) matched Taylor with an 83 after back-to-back 85s. Kim Lindow (78-90-85—253) and Tilton share possession of 72nd place in the individual standings.
Oklahoma City’s Sydney Cox (77-73-73—223) took over the lead with her second straight 1-over 73. Teammate Ashley Sholer (76-77-73—226) moved up three places to second while California Baptist’s Adriana Niclotti (71-78-81—230), the leader at the start of the day, fell to fifth place.
