PORTLAND, Ore.—Kevan West (Vancover, Wash.) and Greg McFarland (Riverside, Calif.) have recently signed letters of intent to further their academic and basketball careers at Concordia University, Cavalier head coach Brad Barbarick announced.

West will arrive to Concordia after one season at Ohlone College in Freemont, Calif. As a 6-foot-3 guard, West helped lead the Renegades to a 25-9 record as a freshman last season, guiding the team to the ‘Sweet 16’ of the California State Junior College Tournament.

West prepped at Prairie High School in Vancouver, Wash., and helped lead the Falcons to three consecutive trips to the Washington AAA state tournament. As a senior, West averaged 15 points per game and was a first-team All-Greater St. Helen’s League selection. In addition, West earned all-region honors and was selected to play in the 2008 SW Washington Les Schwab Roundball Shootout All-Star event where he was named the slam dunk champion.

“Kevan will bring a dynamic set of skills to our team next season. He is an extremely athletic guard that can really shoot and defend. He is an outstanding rebounder as a guard, and brings a toughness and team-first mentality,” Barbarick said. “I have been fortunate to have known Kevan for most of his life, as he has been a regular at our summer Rip City Hoop Camps since he was seven years old. He already knows many of our players and will be a great fit for our team.”

With a 6-foot-8 frame, McFarland will bring size and quickness to the Cavalier squad. McFarland earned first-team All-Big 8 Conference honors as a junior and again as a senior while attending Riverside Poly High School. He was named All-CIF honorable Mention in 2008-2009. McFarland was a three year varsity performer at Poly and averaged 16.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as a senior. McFarland has also been a member of the Branch West Basketball Academy All-Star team.

“Greg might be the quickest post player we have ever recruited,” Barbarick said. “Coming from a very strong high school program at Riverside Poly, Greg has a great work ethic and will have an immediate impact in our program. Greg is very versatile in that he can play the wing as well as the post and he is very active defensively around the basket.”
