Raiders Set Records In Sweep
ASHLAND, ORE. - Three Southern Oregon softball players set season records today as the Raiders swept Eastern Oregon 10-5 and 4-1 today at University Field.
The Raiders finish the season 22-15 overall and 18-6 in Cascade Conference play, good enough for second place in the final standings. The Raiders were picked to finish fifth in the preseason by the conference’s coaches. Eastern Oregon finished 13-29 overall and 5-19 in conference action.
Sophomore Meghan Laughlin, senior Strohm Fouty and freshman Jordyn Kurtz all set season records as a result of their efforts today.
Laughlin had two hits today and set the single-season batting average record at .463. Fouty was on base four times today set the school record for on-base percentage in a season at .519. Kurtz got the complete game victories in both games to set the school record for complete games at 30.
A big fourth inning in the opener helped the Raiders jump out to a 6-0 lead and the Raiders added four in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run triple by senior Joelle Riekeman.
Kurtz struck out three to pick up her 20th win of the game.
In the second game, Kurtz took control on the mound and at the plate.
On the mound, Kurtz limited the Mountaineers to just two hits and at the plate tied a school record with a pair of home runs. Kurtz finished the season 21-14 in the circle.
Fouty finished the doubleheader with four stolen bases to up her school record total to 43.
Today’s doubleheader was the final games in the careers of Fouty, Riekeman and Ricci Coultas.
