Concordia's Andria Scheese ran a terrific tactical race on her way to a third-place finish in the 800, and the men's and women's CU track programs both finished in the top five in the team scoring races.

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Concordia's men's and women's track and field teams realized the pre-meet hopes of many surrounding the Cavalier program Saturday by posting top-five finishes at the 2009 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships here.
The men's team, which had three individual event champions and seven All-Americans, totaled 51.5 points to share third place with Oklahoma Baptist. Azusa Pacific, which totaled 80 points, successfully defended its title from 2008. Dickinson State (71) finished second. Eastern Oregon (19) placed 16th overall and Southern Oregon (8) tied for 30th.
On the women's side, the Cavaliers had an individual event champion in three-time discus winner Annie Hess and a total of eight All-Americans. Concordia totaled 44.5 points to share fifth place with Black Hills (S.D.) State. Wayland Baptist (102 points) won the team crown, and was followed by Oklahoma Baptist (58), Lindenwood (52) and Azusa Pacific (48). College of Idaho (4) tied for 45th, Oregon Tech (2) tied for 55th, and Eastern Oregon (1) and Southern Oregon (1) tied for 61st.
The Cascade Collegiate Conference totaled 19 All-Americans during the three-day meet; in addition to the 15 All-America citations by Concordia, Southern Oregon and Eastern Oregon each had a pair.
SATURDAY CCC NOTES:
►Nik Kay (right) successfully defended his national discus crown by registering the winning mark on his final attempt. It is the fourth individual title of this championship meet for a CCC student-athlete. All four have come from Concordia -- Kay, Annie Hess (women's discus), Greg Schultz (men's hammer), and Jesse Staub (men's javelin).
► College of Idaho sophomore Stephanie Helm finished seventh in a deep and talented field in the women's 5,000 meters, clocking a time of 17:21.61.
►Concordia's Katherine Tripp earned All-America honors by finishing third in the shot put on Saturday. Tripp posted a mark of 46-8 3/4. Teammate Kristine Leonard (41-1 3/4) and OIT's Brianne Kenyon (41-4 1/2 did not advance to the finals.
►In the women's 800, Concordia's Linsie Michels just missed earning All-America honors, clocking a time of 2:12.47 for a seventh-place finish.
►In the men's 800, Concordia's Jessy Brown finished eighth in the finals.
►In the men's 400 hurdles, Concordia's Curtis Parrish picked up two team points with a seventh-place finish in the finals.
► In the women's 1,500 meters, Concordia's Andria Scheese posted a PR of 4:34.25 to place third and earn All-America honors. Scheese, who held back through the first three laps, made her move early on the bell lap, eventually passing five runners on her way to a bronze medal.
►Southern Oregon's Cameron Kreuz placed fourth in the 1,500 meters to join teammate Antwun Baker (100 meter) as a 2009 NAIA All-American. Kreuz posted a time of 3:47.84.
►Concordia's Erika Schmid earned All-America status for the third time in the women's high jump, clearing a best of 5-5 to finish in a tie for sixth place.
►In the men's pole vault, the CCC's only entrant was Concordia's Jordan Trump, who cleared 15-7 to finish in a tie for sixth and stake claim to All-America honors.
►Eastern Oregon's Cam Starner placed eighth in the men's steeplechase, finishing eighth in a time of 9:18.51.
►In the men's marathon, the CCC's lone entrant, Eric Jones of Evergreeen, recorded a 10th-place finish, clocking a time of 2:39:22.00.
►In the women's marathon, College of Idaho's Chantel Varland (3:28:57.01) finished 14th and Eastern Oregon's Katie Clapp (3:32:49.01) placed 17th.
