Corban's Ohta Lands Three More Recruits for 2010 Season
SALEM, Ore. – Second-year head coach Nathan Ohta announced Thursday the signing of three more recruits for the 2010 season, including high school seniors Nicolby Atallah (Pasadena, Calif.), Shauna Boudreaux (Donald, Ore.), and Tess Bennett (Sutherlin, Ore.).
"Shauna, Tess, and Nicolby are a part of what is shaping up to be a very solid recruiting class for us," commented Ohta. "They are each very skilled at their respective positions, and bring a combination of talent, high level experience, and passion for the game that will greatly enhance our team. We are very excited that they have chosen to become a part of the softball program here at Corban."
Atallah, who is currently wrapping up her final season at Maranatha High School in Southern California, is helping lead the Minutemen into the CIF playoffs after the team posted a win-loss record of 17-6 that included a perfect 5-0 record in Alpha League play. The 5-foot-5 right-handed pitcher is 8-4 this season in 14 appearances with 57 strikeouts in 59.1 innings of work. Atallah is second on the team in Earned Run Average (ERA) at 2.36 and has won six of her last seven games that included three shutouts.
At the plate, Atallah is currently hitting .371 (23-for-62) with two triples and one home run. Atallah registered a season-best three hits twice, as she went a perfect 3-for-3 against Alverno with two runs scored and two RBI before turning in another 3-for-3 performance against Marymount with one run scored and one RBI.
Boudreaux, who is currently at North Marion High School, was part of the Huskies' Capital Conference Championship squad as a junior that finished with a win-loss record of 13-3 and advanced to the third round of the OSAA 4A Softball Championships. Thanks to her work in the field, Boudreaux was named all-conference honorable mention as an infielder and also earned 1st team Mid-Willamette Valley All-Area honors.
The 5-foot-6 senior infielder has helped lead North Marion to a 5-2 overall record this season that includes a 4-1 mark in Capital Conference play, as the Huskies are sitting within the Top 15 in the state according to the 4A coaches' poll.
Bennett, who is in the midst of her senior campaign at Sutherlin High School, will be coming to Corban as a two-sport athlete to play both softball and basketball. The 5-foot-10 Bennett has helped lead the Lady Dawgs to a No. 5 ranking in the latest 4A coaches' poll after assisting Sutherlin to a win-loss record of 7-2 last season and a spot in the second round of the state tournament.
On the court, Bennett helped lead Sutherlin to a runner-up finish as a senior after being named 4A Player of the Year following the conclusion of her junior season. Bennett also earned 1st team all-state honors in back-to-back seasons before being named as a McDonald's All-American nominee. The 5-foot-10 small forward concluded her prep basketball career as Sutherlin's record holder for most points in both a game and single season.
Corban is coming off its second-best season in program history after posting an overall mark of 19-23 that included a fifth place finish in the Cascade Collegiate Conference thanks to a win-loss record of 7-13. The Warriors will be returning 12 players from this year's squad, while adding four other new players – Nicole Sikes, Tamara Feb, Stephanie Nippert, and Liana DeHart.
