PORTLAND, Ore.—Kai Schmidt, a 2008 graduate of Lakeridge High School (Lake Oswego, Ore.) will play basketball at Concordia University next year after attending the University of Hawaii as a freshman, CU head coach Aaron Christian announced.

“We are extremely pleased that Kai has chosen to join the Cavaliers,” Christian said. “I know she has missed playing basketball this past year and she will have an impact on our program from the start. She is a very unique player, with her size, strength, and versatility she has the ability to score inside and out.”

A 5-foot-10 forward, Schmidt was a three-year standout on the hardwood at Lakeridge High School. She was a two-time team captain and a two-time All-Three Rivers League pick. She averaged 13.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and guided the Pacers to a 10-14 overall record as a senior.

Schmidt competed in track and field at Hawaii last season, placing third in the javelin with a 144-10 toss at the WAC Championships to earn all-conference honors. Schmidt also placed 12th at the NCAA West Regional with a mark of 142-10.
