KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Ben Rue, a 2009 Concordia graduate and a four-year standout on the baseball team has recently signed a professional contract with the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League.

Rue signed on June 2 and has since gone 1-1 with a 7.98 ERA in six appearances (two starts) for the conference-leading Kings (29-19).

An independent league, the Frontier League has 12 teams and dates back to 1993. The Kings play in the six-team member East Division.

“I think Ben will make the adjustment to professional baseball fairly quickly. He has the skills to be very successful,” Concordia head coach Rob Vance said.

Rue was an All-Cascade Collegiate Conference pick as a junior when he led the conference with a 2.66 ERA. Out of his twelve starts as a senior, Rue tossed eight complete games. He compiled a 4-7 record with a 4.11 ERA. He struck out 47 while walking 28 over the season.
