PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific College has announced the hiring of James Robertson as coach of the men’s and women’s golf teams. Coach Robertson will assume the coaching duties as the new school year starts on August 27th. He has an extensive background in the sport and brings a wealth of experience to the position.

Robertson has spent many years coaching at the professional level. He has coached players on the PGA, LPGA, Nationwide, Futures, Champions, and European Tours. In addition, he has coached numerous college players, including a stint as the men’s and women’s golf coach at St Andrews Presbyterian College in North Carolina. Finally, he has worked with young golfers and is currently serving as the Director of the Get Fit Junior Golf and Leadership Academy in Missouri.

Aside from his work as a golf swing coach, Robertson has done a significant amount of work in the area of sports psychology and athletic performance. He has written several books, as well as numerous magazine and newspaper articles. His latest book is called “Gateway to the Game of Golf: Putting”

Warner Pacific Director of Athletics, Bart Valentine, says of the hiring, “We are extremely fortunate to have someone with the experience and abilities of James Robertson take over our golf program. He will be a real asset to the development of our program and our athletes.”

In thinking about his new opportunity, Coach Robertson remarked, “Opportunities present themselves to each of us in many different ways. Warner Pacific College offers scholar athletes the opportunity to grow and mature mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I look forward to working in a Christian environment and am happy to be joining the Warner Pacific community.”

Robertson will replace Tom Kunke, who is taking a year’s leave of absence from his faculty position at Warner Pacific. Kunke was the inaugural golf coach at the college, as the program was instated for the 2008-09 school year.
