Owls Win 1-0 to Open Season
SAN FRANCISCO, Cal. – The Oregon Tech women’s soccer team opened up the 2009 campaign with a 1-0 win over host Academy of Art University played at Kezar Stadium on Thursday.
Senior forward Katie O'Brien (Medford, Ore.) scored her first goal of the season in the 66th minute for the games only goal. O’Brien took a pass from transfer Kayla Willhelm (Grants Pass, Ore.), who was credited with the assist, scoring from the top of the 18 after dancing around an Urban Knight defender.
For the game, Oregon Tech (1-0) out-shot NCAA II College of Art University 22-5. Oregon Tech also had eight corner kicks to just one for the opponents. Oregon Tech goalie Megan Ross was credited with five saves.
The game was a scrimmage for Academy of Art University (0-0) but did count as a contest for Oregon Tech.
The Owls will be idle Friday before meeting Cal Pac foe Bethany University in Scotts Valley, Cal. on Saturday at 11:00 am.
