MONMOUTH, Ore.— Building a 3-0 lead by the half, the No.2-ranked Concordia women’s soccer team cruised to a 4-1 win over Western Oregon University on Saturday.

With the result, CU improved to 2-0-0 on the year and will next face Concordia-Irvine on August 30 in a neutral match held in Ashland, Ore.

The Cavs struck for three goals in the first half of play with junior Kaitlyn Tebbs (Bend, Ore.) finding the net in the 17th minute of action. Coming off the bench, the freshman duo of Shelby Bloodworth (Vancouver, Wash.) and Kalynn Winwood (Boise, Idaho) notched one goal each for the second straight match with Bloodworth striking in the 34th minute off a cross from Sami Andrews (Camas, Wash.) and Winwood firing a dart into the right side of the net in the 40th minute.

“What we told the group when you come off the bench we want them to make a difference,” head coach Grant Landy said. “And they showed again that they are capable of providing hat spark.”

Andrews connected on a goal of her own, her first of the year, with a high arcing shot in the 62nd minute to make it a 4-0 affair. WOU avoided the shutout with a successful penalty kick conversion with exactly 26 minutes to play.

“They were all quality goals today. We were definitely in control of the match. There were spots were we let it get away from us, but that’s going to happen over 90 minutes,” Landy said.

Concordia took 18 shots compared to seven for the Wolves. The Cavaliers also generated a dominating 9-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Georgie Christensen (Hillsboro, Ore.) picked up her second win of the season, collecting three saves in the match.
