PORTLAND, Ore.— Despite falling behind 2-0, British Columbia scored three unanswered to defeat Concordia 3-2 with a golden goal in the 102nd minute in nonconference action men’s soccer action at Delta Park on Sunday.

Concordia, ranked No.25 in the NAIA, finished their first week of the season with a 1-1 record after defeating Goshen College 2-0 on Saturday.

“I was encouraged by the way the guys addressed some issues from last night,” CU head coach Dan Birkey said. “To do that within 24 hours is a good sign; we had much better passing and relaxed a bit more, but one of the things we talked about after the match was that when you are playing at this level, the room for error gets smaller and those small errors you make along the course of the game are usually your downfall and that’s what happened tonight.”

Senior forward Tyler Camps (Vancouver, Wash.) got the Cavaliers on the board early with a finish in the 6th minute after a breakaway with fellow teammates Jared Brace (Vancouver, Wash.) and Facundo Dipascuale (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

Brace and Dipascuale, both got an assist on the play by tapping the ball to Camp, who was powering down the right flank unmarked. Camp managed a stretch to get a foot on the ball which directed the sphere back across to the left of the UBC keeper whose momentum was carrying him towards Camp.

Camp bookended the period with his second goal of the game this time with less than 20 seconds remaining in the half.

The Thunderbirds struck in the opening minutes of the second period as Tyson Keam found the net in the 52nd minute and the team managed to square the contest at 2-2 with the aid of an own goal off the CU defense in the 63rd minute.

Neither team would gain an advantage throughout the remaining 27 minutes of play, leading to a UBC score from Devon Smith two minutes into the second overtime session to end the encounter.

UBC outshot the Cavs 18-to-9 and enjoyed an 11-to-3 advantage in corner kicks. Nikolai Matni gained the win, stopping two shots and allowing the pair of goals.

Concordia returns to action on Sept. 5 when it hosts Cal Baptist. Opening kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Delta Park.
