REDDING, Calif.—Falling behind in the first half, Concordia rallied with a pair of unanswered goals to defeat Holy Names 2-1 in a neutral-site women’s soccer match on Friday. With the win, the No.2-ranked Cavaliers improved to 3-0-0 while Holy Names falls to 0-1-0.

Full stats were not available immediately.

The Hawks were able to punch in a goal midway through the first period, but CU freshman Shelby Bloodworth (Vancouver, Wash.) responded with her third goal in three games with roughly 10 minutes to play in the opening period.

“Shelby made an immediate difference for us tonight,” CU head coach Grant Landy said. “She went right at their defenders and buried one in the netting.”

Angie Turner (Salem, Ore.) would generate the eventual game-winner in the 78th minute after receiving a cross from teammate Carli Godard (Roseburg, Ore.).

“We shot ourselves in the foot as we had some good chances to put some distance on them early,” Landy said. “Hopefully it will be a good lesson for us to use our chances as well as a good character test for us as a young team to fall behind and come back from that adversity.”

Concordia will extend its trip by traveling back north to face Concordia-Irvine in a neutral match held in Ashland, Ore. Opening kick is set for 11 a.m.

“We are going to have to play a lot better and finish our chances,” Landy said. “They are very organized and always bring good athletes. They should be the best team we played so far this year.”
