Cavs Blank Eagles in Concordia Battle
BOX SCORE
ASHLAND, Ore.—Playing their second match against California opponents looking for an upset to jump into the top 25, No. 2 Concordia (Ore.) defeated Concordia (Cal.) 2-0 in a neutral match played at University Field on Sunday.
With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 4-0 -0 on the season while the Eagles dropped to 1-1-0. The Cavs return to action on Sept. 4 when it travels to Olympia, Wash., for a neutral match against the University of Victoria.
Peppering eight shots against the Eagles while giving up just a single attempt, the Cavaliers generated a two-goal cushion with scores by Jessica Ramback (Mill Creek, Wash.) in the 26th minute and Shelby Bloodworth (Vancouver, Wash.) in the 36th minute.
Ramback scored after a feed by teammate Sami Andrews (Camas, Wash.) while Bloodworth found the net after a pass by fellow freshman Alex Thomas (Wilsonville, Ore.).
The Eagles fought back in the second half with nine shot attempts in the final 45 minutes but were denied from preventing the shutout by the Cavalier defense and goalkeeper Georgie Christensen (Hillsboro, Ore.), who had a season-best six saves for her second shutout in four games.
“It was kind of a tale of two halves,” CU head coach Grant Landy said. “The first half was the best 45 minutes we have played all year; we were controlling the flow, connecting passes and taking people on.”
