BOX SCORE

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Junior Katie Hanson (Salem, Ore.) scored the game-winning goal in the 51st minute via a header off a corner kick, as Corban's women's soccer team remained unbeaten to open the season with a 1-0 victory over NCAA Division III member Pacific University of Oregon Tuesday night at Lincoln Park Stadium.

In an attempt to remain unbeaten to start the 2009 season, Corban opened a two-game, two-night road trip against a pair of NCAA Division III members in Pacific (Ore.) and Linfield.

After a scoreless first half in which both teams unleashed six shots, Corban got on the board just over five minutes into the final period.

Junior Erin Laughlin (Ephrata, Wash.) began the play when she sent a corner kick towards the net that was headed into the upper right corner by Hanson for the game's lone score.

Over the game's final 45 minutes, Corban's defense held the host Boxers to only four shots versus the Warriors' eight en route to securing the victory.

Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Bassett (Keizer, Ore.) picked up her first collegiate victory, as she stood between the pipes for all 90 minutes and registered a team-high three saves. On the other hand, Pacific's net-minder Brittany Hartmann recorded a game-high six saves in the hard-fought loss.

With today's results, Corban improves to 1-0-1 on the season compared to Pacific's season-opening 0-1 record. The Warriors will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 2nd, when they travel north to McMinnville to take on the Wildcats of Linfield beginning at 7:00 p.m.
