Overtime Unkind For Knights Versus George Fox
BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. – Kirsten Caldwell of George Fox broke a 2-2 tie in the second overtime period with her second goal of the game to send the Knights to a non-conference loss at Meyer/Beck field tonight.
After surrendering two early goals, the Knights responded with two of their own in a 60 second span to get back in the game.
The visiting Bruins struck first thanks to Cardwell’s first tally of the night at the 8:14 mark. Jenny McKenzie gave her a nice feed that Cardwell finished left and low. McKenzie then added a goal 8 minutes later off a corner kick opportunity, beating goalkeeper Lacey Golden to the far post.
The Knight defense solidified for the rest of the half and Elissa Coutin provided an offensive lift with a point blank goal at 38:09 off a Danielle Rodriguez corner kick.
A mere 45 seconds later, Rodriguez streaked through the middle after a Coutin long pass and slotted a shot past Bruin keeper Autumn Van Meter to tie the game.
The action in the second period was played primarily between the 18’s, though each team managed to earn several dangerous corner kicks.
After an uneventful first overtime, the fatigued sides seemed resigned to a draw. However 3:32 into the second overtime is when Caldwell finished off a well executed counter attack to give George Fox the 3-2 win.
The stats confirm the evenly played match, with GFU registering 13 shots compared to 10 for Warner Pacific. The Bruins managed 10 corner kicks, with WPC earning 6.
Warner Pacific drops to 0-4-1 on the young season. George Fox improves to 2-0.
The Knights are back in action this Saturday, September 11th at 11:00 am versus Linfield College. The game will be at Portland Christian High School.
