Concordia Drops Knights In Three
PORTLAND, Ore. – In a battle of Portland rivals, Warner Pacific fell in straight sets to Concordia at C.C. Perry gym tonight.
The Cavaliers were the sharper team for most of the match, and swung for 43 kills versus just 8 errors – a .327 percentage. The Knights hit for 35 kills but had 17 errors.
A 5-0 run by the Cavs in the middle of set 1 pushed their lead to 19-14 and the Knights did not recover.
Game 2 was close all the way, with the largest lead by either team by Warner Pacific at 13-10. From there the set was tied eleven times, the last time by Leah Gradwohl’s kill that tied the score at 26-26. Back to back kills from CU’s Claire Thiel and Raluca Dinca ended the game and gave the visitors a 2 set to 0 advantage.
Despite a slow start, the Knights were hanging tough in set 3 and were within striking distance at 9-12. Concordia proceeded to reel off 7 straight points due in part to four Knight hitting errors.
A last ditch effort from WPC closed the gap to 19-23 but two more kills from Theil sealed the victory for Concordia.
Thiel was feeling it on the attack tonight for CU, spiking home 16 kills to just 1 error. Kim Lindow had 19 digs.
Warner Pacific was paced by Sam Kolakowski’s 11 kills and 15 digs.
The Knights drop to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in CCC play. Concordia improves to 5-5 and 2-1.
WPC will play its final non-conference game of the season at Willamette tomorrow night in Salem. First serve is at 7pm.
