BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore. – Despite a valiant effort by the Warriors, Corban's women's soccer team fell to the NAIA's No. 18-ranked Saints of Carroll College, 4-0, Friday afternoon in Game #2 of the 2009 Corban Classic at Warrior Field.

Making its home debut this season, Corban battled against the nationally-ranked Saints for most of the first half and even had a good chance to score with less than four minutes remaining. Junior Erin Laughlin (Ephrata, Wash.) sent a corner kick from the near side that Carroll's keeper ran out among traffic and snagged out of the air, as sophomore Amanda Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) attempted to get a head on the ball.

Carroll got on the scoreboard first when Hannah Young headed home an Abby Hoover corner kick that gave the visiting Saints the early 1-0 lead in the 34th minute.

The score would remain in Carroll's favor heading into halftime before Corban junior Sheree Kuehl (Seabeck, Wash.) had the best opportunity to score for the Warriors. In the 53rd minute, Kuehl got an unattested chance from just outside the penalty area. With a swift kick of her right foot, Kuehl sent the ball towards the upper left corner of the goal but could not guide it into the net as the ball curved away from Carroll's unaware keeper and out-of-bounds.

That was the last good scoring chance that Corban would get, as Carroll put three more goals on the board within a 10-minute span. Meghan O'Connell scored a pair of goals in the 66th and 74th minute, while Sophie Johnson squeezed a goal between O'Connell's in the 68th minute.

Corban's senior goalkeeper Jennifer Bassett (Keizer, Ore.) would stand between the pipes for the entire 90 minutes, as she collected a game-high two saves. Meanwhile, Carroll platooned its keepers as Katie Beall went the opening 73-plus minutes and registered one save before Erin Volz ended the game between the pipes for the Saints and collected one save.

With today's result, Corban falls to 2-3-1 overall. Meanwhile, Carroll remains undefeated at 5-0. The Warriors will be back in action tomorrow – Saturday, September 12th – when they take on the Battlin' Bears of Rocky Mountain beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.

NOTE: In Game #1 of the 2009 Corban Classic played earlier today on Warrior Field, the NAIA's No. 2-ranked Concordia defeated Rocky Mountain, 3-1, behind goals from Alex Thomas, Carli Godard, and Jessica Ramback.
