Knights Fare Well At UP Invite
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams competed at the University of Portland Invite yesterday at Pier Park in North Portland.
On the men’s side, the Knights placed 4th as a team in a strong field, just behind Univ. of Portland and ahead of Seattle University.
Ephrem Mammo led the charge for WPC, placing 14th overall in a time of 26:58 over the 8 kilometer distance. He was followed by Karim Shakalia (19th), Eric Lagerstrom (24th), Juan De La Cruz (35th), Chris Meeker (41st), Han White-Duong (44th), Travis Pengra (51st), Kevin Fleishman (58th), and Marcus Davis (71st).
Kayla Perry highlighted the women’s race with a Warner Pacific record in the 6 kilometer distance. Her time of 23:21 placed her 6th overall versus some top competition.
The Knights as a team finished in 5th place.
Following Perry across the line were Dominga Arzate (36th), Kattarina Korpela (47th), Kayla Winkle (51st), and Krystal Estrella (59th).
“This was a good early season meet for us,” said head coach Bryant Howard. “Our runners were up against some good teams and we competed well. It also was a good experience for our younger runners, getting them some needed course time alongside top level competition. Kayla was really strong and ran a smart race. It’s no surprise she broke our 6k record.”
