Erika Mouritsen had two goals and an assist in C of I shutout win
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - A pair of Erika Mouritsen goals in the first 27 minutes gave The College of Idaho a lead it would not relinquish, as the Lady Yotes shutout Westminster College, 4-0, at Dumke Field.
The Lady Yotes (3-1) became the first team to win a pair of games on Westminster’s home pitch – having toppled the Griffins (4-5) in 2007. “The big artificial surface field really played to our strengths,” said head coach Niki Taylor. “Despite the heat, we played extremely well. I am proud of them all.”
The opening goal came in the seventh minute, as Mouritsen – a Utah native, finished a cross over the goal mouth by freshman Jessica Ayala, then got a through-ball from Macy Egerman in the 27th minute and finished the 1-on-1 attack with the keeper.
Egerman got into the act in the 37th minute, scoring on a breakaway goal, with Ayala finishing the scoring early in the second half off a Mouritsen feed.
The Coyotes held an 11-5 edge in shots, with Sadie Hughes making four saves to notch her first shutout of the season.
Tomorrow, The C of I meets No. 23 ranked Embry-Riddle at 3:30 p.m. – also in Salt Lake City.
