CCC Players of the Week Named for Sept. 6-13
The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes were recognized as conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period Sept. 7-13:
Women’s Soccer
Offensive – Concordia’s Kelton McFadden (Boise, Idaho), a 5-7 junior forward, scored the game-winning goal in the fifth minute against 18th-ranked Carroll College, and she had an assist in a 3-1 victory over Rocky Mountain College. Other nominees: Jessica Ayala, College of Idaho; Jessica Matthews, Corban; Crystal Foster, Oregon Tech; Emma Loftis, Evergreen.
Defensive – College of Idaho’s Sadie Hughes (Courtenay, B.C.), a 5-8 senior goalkeeper, recorded back-to-back shutouts as the Lady Yotes handed Westminster just its fifth home loss ever and defeated 23rd-ranked Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) a 1-0 setback. Hughes had eight saves. Other nominees: Jessica Kuehlwein, Southern Oregon; Jennifer Bassett, Corban; Katie Orr, Oregon Tech; Jenna Peterson, Concordia; Sonya Daisley-Harrison, Evergreen.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Concordia’s Tyler Camp (Vancouver, Wash.), a 5-9 senior forward, scored a goal and posted two assists as the Cavaliers defeated Corban 3-0. His goal against the Warriors was the game-winner as he punched the ball in in the eighth minute of play. Other nominees: Mirza Memic, Evergreen; Carlos Gomez, College of Idaho; T.J. Bacewich, Corban.
Defensive – Concordia’s Will Snow (Vancouver, Wash.), a 6-2 senior defender, headlined a defense which gave up just one shot on goal in six attempts as the Cavaliers opened CCC play with a 3-0 victory over Corban. Other nominees: Sean Ervin, Warner Pacific; Aaron Franklin, Corban.
Volleyball
Hitter – Southern Oregon’s Leah Bergstrom (West Linn, Ore.), a 6-1 junior, had 34 kills and only 10 errors as the Raiders knocked off Eastern Oregon and went five games with 11th-ranked College of Idaho. Bergstrom also had a hand in seven blocks. Other nominees: Kathryn Ely, College of Idaho; Lauren Holtz, Northwest; Ashleigh Dailey, Eastern Oregon; Leah Gradwohl, Warner Pacific; Chandra Baskoro, Corban; Raluca Dinca, Concordia; Jazzmin Garcia, Evergreen.
Setter – College of Idaho’s Naomi Reimer (Killarney, Manitoba), a 5-7 junior, posted impressive all-around numbers as the Yotes swept Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon at home. In two matches, Reimer had 46 assists and 11 assists. Other nominees: Lauryn Ernster, Northwest; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Angela Spieker, Southern Oregon; Karisa Calderon, Corban; Skyler Kamaka, Concordia.
Libero – College of Idaho’s Whitney Owen (Caldwell, Idaho), a 5-11 junior, recorded her third match of 30-plus digs in a five-set victory over 21st-ranked Southern Oregon. Owen did not have a reception error in two matches over the weekend. Cross Country
Men – Concordia’s Martin Romero-Clark (Portland, Ore.), a senior, was the first CCC runner across the line as he placed fifth overall at the Lewis & Clark Pioneer Open. Romero-Clark clocked a time of 26:08 over the 8,000 meter course in Estacada to help CU to a third-place team finish. Other nominees: Andrew Hugill, College of Idaho; Terry Johnsen, Eastern Oregon; Caleb Goins, Corban.
Women – College of Idaho’s Stephanie Helm (Challis, Idaho) and Concordia’s Alice Taylor (Auckland, New Zealand) are co-runners of the week after placing second overall in their respective meets. Helm timed a school-record 14:23 across 4,000 meters at the Roger Curran Invitational in Nampa; Taylor timed 22:33 at the Lewis & Clark Pioneer Open. Other nominees: Karlee Coffey, Eastern Oregon; Amy Renfro, Corban.
