Cavs, Yotes Tie in CCC Men's Golf Opener

PORTLAND, Ore.— Concordia University and College of Idaho each shot a 41-over 617 to tie for second place at the Warner Pacific Invitational held at Heron Lakes Golf Course in the season opening tournament of the Cascade Collegiate Conference season on Monday.

C of I (309-108—617) held a one stroke lead over Concordia (310-307—617) heading into the second and final round, but the Cavaliers came back with a 19-over 307 to make up the slim margin.

Corban (307-322—629) fired a 19-over 307 in the opening round to enter the midway point in second place, but fell to fourth after posting a 322 in the concluding half of the tourney. Northwest Christian (323-312—635) jumped one position to fifth after scoring finishing with a 312. Warner Pacific (335-327—662) placed seventh to round out the CCC participation.

Linfield (295-301—596) posted the two lowest rounds of the day to claim the team title. Linfield was led by individual titlist Tyler Nelson (73-67—140) who fired a 5-under 67 in the final 18 holes to finish with a 4-under 140.

Concordia’s Jonny Miller (74-72—146) edged Corban’s Joey Duwe (72-75—147) by a single stroke for runner-up honors.

Tyler Thurston (74-74—148) carded back-to-back 148s to come in fourth place as C of I’s top finisher while Warner Pacific’s Andrew Johnson (76-73—149) finished one spot back in fifth place to lead the host Kinghts. Brent McKee (79-71—150) paced Northwest Christian with a sixth-place result, tying Linfield’s Tony Kordosky (74-76—150) with a 150.

Concordia will host the next CCC event, also to be played at Heron Lakes, on Oct. 5.
