Northwest U. Shuts Out Walla Walla U.
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest U. attacked early and scored four goals in each half on their way to an 8-0 shutout over Walla Walla University on the NU Athletic Field this afternoon.
Northwest’s (1-1-2, 0-1) first shot on goal came at the 24 second mark of the first half and then James Kerr got the Eagles on the scoreboard with his goal at 19:48 on a cross from the left side and assist from Doug Whitney. NU’s Luke Fischer followed less than two minutes later with his shot from 20 yards out on the right side for the Eagles’ second score (21:09). Brandon Screen had the assist on the play. James Kerr scored his second goal of the half at 22:10 unassisted. Teammate Drew Jensen continued the NU scoring with his goal from 19 yards out (38:58) as Scott Graff scored the assist.
Second half goals came from Northwest’s Miguel Galvan (unassisted) from 20 yards out one minute into the half; Alex Taylor from 17 yards out on Brandon Screen’s second assist (47:55); Brandon Screen’s header over the outstretched hand of the goalie (Taylor the assist at 50:04)); and Scott Graff with the final score of the day from 10 yards out (85:14). Teammate Mason Abdalla was credited with the assist.
NU outshot the Wolves (0-5) 32-6. WWU Goalie Drew Miller had 9 saves on the day while NU goalkeepers Kyle Wall (1 first half save) and Brian Swanson (2 second half saves) combined for three Eagle saves.
"It's nice to get our first win of the season," stated NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh. "We were also able to play a lot of guys today and everyone gave us a good effort when they came into the game. This will only help prepare us for conference play next week as will Friday's game with Bethany at home."
Northwest U. will host Bethany University (Calif.) on Friday, September 18 at 3:00 p.m.
