Eagles Overwhelm Bethany in Shutout Win
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University scored early and often this afternoon in shutting out Bethany University (Calif.), 13-0, in a non-conference contest on the NU Athletic Field. NU's Jordyn Wilson and Yanet Candido scored hat tricks for the Eagles with three goals a piece and both added an assist on the day.
Northwest’s (1-4-1) first goal came just 5:27 into the game when Rachael Harris put one into the goal off a corner kick from teammate Stephanie Cummins. It was the first of eight first half goals scored by the Eagles. Jordyn Wilson, scored the next two goals (16:35 and 23:06) with Yanet Candido getting the assist on the first goal and the second was unassisted. Abby Brauer (26:30, assist Wilson); Yanet Candido (28:36, Chelsea Miller assist); Jordyn Wilson (31:12, assist Mindy Nation); Yanet Candido (41:19, unassisted) and Candido again (42:42, unassisted) all scored in the first half for Northwest U.
Second half scoring for the Eagles was credited to Kirstie Perron (48:41); Julia Johnson (54:23); and Julia Johnson again (60:04) all with unassisted goals. Rose Livermore scored at 69:54 with an assist from Chelsi Pennington and Melissa Newhouse ended the scoring for NU with her unassisted goal at the 74:06 mark.
Northwest outshot Bethany 45 to 2 and Bethany goalies, Madison Steele and Breann Anderson each had 6 saves as they both played a 45 minute half.
"I was proud of the way our players came out and attacked early today," commented Eagle Head Coach Erin Redwine. "I was also impressed with Bethany as they continued to play hard the entire game and never quit."
Northwest U. will begin Cascade Conference play on September 25 and they travel to LaGrande, Oregon to play Eastern Oregon University at 2:00 p.m.
