Northwest U. in Big Shutout Win Over Bethany
KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Northwest University men earned a 7-0 shutout victory over visiting Bethany University (Calif.) this afternoon in a non-conference game. Sophomore Luke Fischer led NU with one goal and two assist on the day.
Kyle Tatro (Soph., Issaquah, Wash.) started things off for Northwest U.(2-1-2, 0-1 CCC) with his goal (11:25) off a crossing header from senior Craig McCuistion (Ridgefield, Wash.). Freshman Alex Taylor (Mill Creek, Wash.) also had an assist on the play. Two minutes later (13:29), senior Matt Walton (Tacoma, Wash.) hit a rocket from 20 yards straight out that got by the Bethany goalie. Luke Fischer (Kalispell, Mont.) hit another goal from 20 yards out from the right side at the 34:56 mark on an unassisted goal and Mason Bochner (Fresh., Bothell, Wash.) ended NU’s offensive attack in the first half with his shot from 10 yards out on cross from Luke Fischer.
Three minutes into the second half (48:18), Eagle Derek Woolsey (Fresh., Mill Creek, Wash.) put one into the goal net from 15 yards out. At 76:50, NU's Shayn Fite (Jr., Kennewick, Wash.) found the goal net with his unassisted goal from 15 yards out on the left side and teammate Alex Taylor scored his goal as time was running out in the game from an assist by Luke Fischer.
Bethany (0-2) goalie, Doug Crawford Jr., Fremont, Calif.), had two save for the game as NU outshot Bethany 18 to 5. A physical game saw a combined 34 fouls called on the teams.
“Tough game to play today,” stated NU Coach Gary McIntosh. “ I felt our guys came out with a lot of energy and passion and scored some really good goals. The team should be satisfied with this win today.”
Northwest U. will now travel to Portland, Oregon on September 22 to begin Cascade Conference play against Concordia University. Bethany will travel to Walla Walla, Washington to play Walla Walla University on Saturday, September 19.
