Raiders Take Down Eagles In Four
ASHLAND, ORE. -- The 18th-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team took down Northwest University 25-12, 25-19, 22-25, 25-14 tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
Southern Oregon improved to 10-2 on the year and 4-1 in Cascade Conference play. Northwest fell to 4-9 overall and 3-1 in league action. The Raiders host Evergreen State Saturday night.
Leah Bergstrom led SOU with 12 kills. Heather Porter and Chelsea Hartman finished with nine kills and Megan Bartling and Leanne Stennett both had eight kills. Bartling had zero errors for the night and finished with three blocks, while Porter had a hand in eight.
The Raiders wasted little time in the first set, racing out to leads of 17-7 and 23-8, while hold the Eagles to a -.125 attack percentage. In the second set, SOU hit .250 to secure the victory, but the Eagles rallied in the third set, taking advantage of 10 SOU errors to force a fourth set.
In the fourth set, SOU again jumped out early with back-to-back kills by Bartling and Bergstrom for a 6-2 lead.
Hartman had a pair of kills as the Raiders pushed the lead to 16-9. Corynn Jorgensen then served for eight straight points to extend the Raider advantage to 24-13 and Stennett ended the match with a kill.
Jorgensen, in her first game this year as the starting libero, had a match-high 28 digs and Angela Spieker finished with 30 assists.
