BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. – For the third time this year Warner Pacific women’s soccer sent a game into overtime, this time resulting in a 1-1 tie versus William Jessup University at Portland Christian High School tonight.

Facing a 1-0 deficit late in the second half, WPC’s Danielle Rodriguez cracked a 12 yard strike past the Warrior goalkeeper to send the game to extra time and avoid the loss for the Knights.

The goal was fortuitous, as WJU had scored in the 65th minute thanks to a Chelsea Aberson goal. The opportunity was set up by a Jaque Cassell strike that was saved brilliantly by Knight keeper Lacey Golden. The ball rebounded to Aberson’s feet, however, and her 5 yard tap was true.

The visiting Warriors gained the momentum and nearly tacked on another as a Taylor-Rose Greasley shot clanged off the crossbar.

From there, the hosts settled down and started to find space in their offensive half. From the left corner at 87:32, Marissa McGinn kicked a line drive across the penalty area. That’s when Rodriguez put a foot to the bouncing ball and found the back of the net.

The first overtime saw the game start to become contentious. With a yellow card booked to players from each team already, WJU picked up a second. The Warriors’ Sandy Hanania nearly ended the game in the 95th minute, but her 8 yard attempt went just wide left.

The physical play continued in the second overtime, with WJU keeper Lindsey Cesena sent off with a red card, and WPC picking up another yellow. Despite the man advantage for the last few minutes, the Knights could not capitalize and the teams were left with a draw.

William Jessup led the shots category 18-7, but Warner Pacific generated 5 corner kicks to the Warriors 0. Lacey Golden was solid in goal for the Knights, making 11 saves.

Warner Pacific moves to 0-5-2 on the year, while WJU is now 0-3-1.

The Knights host North Idaho College tomorrow in a scrimmage match. The game will be at Gradin Park in Gresham, Ore. At 1pm.
