CU Edges Warner Pacific In Key Early Season Matchup
BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. – Tyler Camp scored a goal in the 84th minute to break a 1-1 tie and push Concordia over Warner Pacific today at Portland Christian HS.
With the grass turf soggy from morning rains, both squads were ragged early on and offensive opportunities were hard to come by. The visiting Cavs struck first as Jared Brace jumped on a misplay from the Knight keeper and flicked in a goal at the 31:51 mark.
Warner Pacific wasted no time after the half to get the equalizer. Alija Sacirovic rifled home a 12 yard shot after a scrum in the penalty area just 38 seconds in the period.
From that point, quality goalkeeping from CU’s Claudio Lazar and the Knights’ Sean Ervin turned aside several chances from each team until Camp’s heroics gave Concordia the lead.
WPC threw everything forward in the last few minutes in an attempt to even the score, but the Cavalier defense was up to the challenge and CU sealed the 2-1 win.
Warner Pacific outshot the visitors 14-10, but Concordia had the advantage in corner kicks 8-3.
The Knights will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept 22nd, hosting Northwest Christian at 6pm. The game will be at Portland Christian HS.
