BOX SCORE

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Chandra Baskoro (Gresham, Ore.) came within two digs of the school record for most digs in a three-set match, as Corban's women's volleyball team defeated conference rival Northwest Christian, 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-22), Friday night inside the Morse Event Center.

Baskoro's match-high 28 digs that included an amazing 13 in the second set alone nearly broke the three-set school record that is held by former Warrior Becky Horn when she registered 30 digs against cross-town rival Willamette on September 5, 2006.

In tonight's opening set, Corban quickly built a six-point lead (7-1) behind a pair of solo blocks by sophomore Tiffany Land (Independence, Ore.). Northwest Christian would battle back to take a one-point lead (20-19) thanks to an 18-12 run that was highlighted by five kills by Cassie Bishop. Corban would push its lead to two points (24-22) following a kill by Baskoro before taking the opening set thanks to a set-closing kill by freshman Morgan Hirzel (Fullerton, Calif.) for the two-point victory (25-23).

Set #2 would open with the host Beacons grabbing a slim two-point lead (4-2) after another kill by Bishop. Corban would battle back and grab its largest lead of the frame (12-6) after a Baskoro service ace that would end a 10-2 run. The visiting Warriors would continue to apply the pressure and pushed their lead to as much as seven points (22-15) after a combo block by junior Teri Braun (Dallas, Ore.) and freshman Karisa Calderon (Murrieta, Calif.). Northwest Christian would attempt to comeback but the deficit was too much, as Corban got a kill from freshman Jenny Harman (Salem, Ore.) before the host Beacons ended the set by committing its seventh and final attack error for the final score of 25-19.

In the third and final set, Corban would grab a 10-point lead (20-10) following a kill by Hirzel. Northwest Christian would then use an 11-4 run to pull within three points (24-21) after a Warrior attack error. Corban would settle down and got a match-closing kill from Baskoro for the third set victory by three points (25-22) and the win via a three-set sweep.

Besides Baskoro's defensive performance, junior Rebecca Franke (Pendleton, Ore.) and sophomore Megan Dees (Tehachapi, Calif.) aided in Corban's 71-dig showing with 22 and 10 respectively. Offensively, Hirzel led the Warriors with nine kills to go along with Baskoro's eight and Harman's seven. Calderon led Corban's offense with a match-high 21 assists, while Land registered five blocks (two solo, three assist) en route to securing the Warriors' second conference victory of the season.

Northwest Christian was led by Bishop's match-high 11 kills, while Emily Miller and two other Beacons added seven and three kills respectively. Whitney Hoff handed out a team-best 12 assists, while Mercedes LeClaire anchored NCU's back line with a team-high 21 digs.

With the victory, Corban improves to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Northwest Christian falls to 3-8 overall and remains winless in CCC action at 0-5. The Warriors will be back in action on Tuesday, September 22nd, when they travel to Newberg for a match against NCAA Division III member George Fox beginning at 7:00 p.m.
