BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore.—No. 1 ranked Cal Baptist scored a pair of goals in the first half and added a third in the second to defeat No. 2 Concordia 3-0 in NAIA women’s soccer action held at Delta Park on Saturday.

With the result, Cal Baptist improved to 7-0-1 on the season with its only blemish a 1-1 tie in a neutral match against #10 Simon Fraser. Concordia dropped to 6-1-0 on the year.

Kylee Nicassio (Alta Loma, Calif.) opened the scoring for the Lancers with a header in the box after playing the ball in from a corner kick off the foot of teammate Joanna Idom (Yorba Linda, Calif.) in the 25th minute of action.

Less than two minutes later, the visiting squad put extra distance on the Cavaliers as Idom would notch a goal of her own by connecting on a long-distance strike. From 20 yards out, Idom booted the ball into the upper right hand corner, just out of reach from CU goalkeeper Georgie Christensen (Hillsboro, Ore.).
Not backing down, the Cavaliers just missed a golden opportunity to cut the deficit, but the excitement of a game-altering goal would be short lived as an offside call was charged on the Concordia attack.

After being outshot 9-to-6 in the first half, the Cavs came out firing on the second. Concordia totaled eight attempts compared to six for the Lancers, but would not be able to find the net on their chances. Meanwhile, CBU would generate its third goal as Solis weaved through the Concordia defense to create space for an 18-yard blast into the upper portion of the net for a 3-0 lead in the 71st minute of play.

Statistically, the match had a closer feel than the score would indicate. The Lancers totaled 15 shots in the game, one more than the Cavaliers. Concordia forced five corner kicks, one more than Cal Baptist.

Emily Evanson tallied seven saves while posting the shutout, the first against the Cavaliers since a 3-0 setback at the NAIA National Championship game last season. Christensen had a season-best five saves in the loss.

Concordia returns to action on Sept. 25 when it opens Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The Cavs, nine-time defending CCC champions, will host Corban College at Delta Park with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
