Eagles Shut Out by High Scoring Wildcats
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Central Washington University got off to a quick start and continued the with a barrage of goals as the Wildcats soundly defeated Northwest University, 8-0, in a non-conference game this afternoon on the new NU Athletic Fields. The weather was perfect with temperatures in the mid 70’s and sunny.
Monique Cornier scored two quick goals for CWU at the 5:42 mark and 7:56 mark in the first half as the Wildcats sprinted out to an early 2-0 lead. Katelyn Scobba made it 3-0 with her goal off a corner kick from Mackenzie Holman with 20 minutes to go in the first half.
CWU (1-3) picked up their offense even more in the second half with five goals. Carson McKole beat NU goalie Jordan Holmes and knocked the ball into an open net from 10 yards out on the right side (57:44). Serena Tomaso scored two goals back-to-back (59:26 and 65:10), chipping her first goal over the goalie from 20 yards straight out. The Wildcat’s final score came on Brittany Franks’ goal from the left side of the goal mouth off a deflection from the NU goalie, Holmes.
CWU dominated the offensive side with 19 shots to Northwest’s five and six corner kicks to the Eagles’ two.
Northwest U.(0-2) will re-group and prepare for another non-conference game this Friday as they travel to Walla for a game with Whitman College a 5:00 p.m.
