KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Oregon Tech men’s soccer team started the 2009 campaign on the right foot after defeating Simpson University 5-1 in a non-conference match today at Trevor Derrah Field at the Steen Sports Complex in Klamath Falls.

Oregon Tech (1-0) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Dustin Hirata goal just three minutes into the contest. Devin Torrey scored the first of his two goals, just one minute later, punching in a goal to the lower left corner to send the Owls up 2-0. Thirty minutes later, an Antonio Jaimes penalty kick would all but secure the win, sending the Owls into the half up 3-0.

Coming out of intermission, it was Devin Torrey finding the back of the net in the 47th minute on an assist from Sam Holcomb to give the Owls a 4-0 advantage. However, the Owls were not through with their offensive output, when Sam Holcomb dribbled past two Red Hawk defenders and from inside the box chipped in the last of the Owls scoring to push the score to 5-0.

Simpson finally got on the board at the 68 minute mark when an Eric Jorgensen penalty kick found its way past the Oregon Tech keeper to close to 5-1. Both defenses held, as that match would end by the same final of 5-1.

The Oregon Tech defense played well, allowing Simpson to only three shots on goal compared to 10 for the Owls.

Oregon Tech will host a non-conference match versus NCAA III Willamette University on Sunday, September 6th at 1 pm.
