BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. – Shaking off a set one loss, Warner Pacific reeled off wins in the next three sets to post a 17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-14 win over George Fox in non-conference volleyball action tonight.

The visiting Bruins looked very good early and pushed to a 20-11 set one lead. Stephanie Kerr was strong at the net, putting up several blocks and getting tips on several other attacks. GFU also benefited from five Knight service errors including one at game point.

The match turned in late set two after the team battled back and forth to 6 lead changes. With the set tied at 21, two kills and an ace added to a Bruin error gave the frame to Warner Pacific.

With the match up for grabs in set three, GFU lurched out to a 12-8 lead behind the hitting of Lyndsey Hovee and Sarah Crossfield. At that point the Knights’ Sam Kolakowski (Vancouver, WA) toed the service line and hit for five consecutive points including two aces as the Bruin serve reception began to struggle. The set was close the rest of the way, but was finished off by a key kill from Claire Van Meer (Abbotsford, BC) to give the narrow win to WPC, 25-23.

Set four belonged to the host Knights who won handily 25-14. WPC cranked out 6 aces in the frame and finished with 14 on the night.

Leah Gradwohl (Salem, OR) was again tops in kills (13) and digs (19) for Warner Pacific. Kolakowski added 11 kills and Melita Elliot (Estacada, Ore.) registered 34 assists.

George Fox was paced by Hovee with 9 kills, joined by Crossfield with 7. Jennifer Panico tallied a team high 18 digs.

George Fox (0-1) hosts Walla Walla College on September 8th at 7:00pm, while the Warner Pacific (3-1) will be in action next on September 4th at Southern Oregon for their first CCC matchup of the season.
