CCC Players of the Week Named in 5 Sports
The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes were recognized as conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period Sept. 14-20:
Women’s Soccer
Offensive – Northwest’s Jordyn Wilson (Snoqualmie, Wash.), a freshman midfielder, had a hat trick plus an assist to lead the Eagles to a lopsided win over Bethany University. Other nominees: Courtney Gaskell, Eastern Oregon; Erika Mouritsen, College of Idaho; Emily Tsugawa, Corban.
Defensive – Evergreen’s Sonya Daisley-Harrison (Maple Valley, Wash.), a junior goalkeeper, turned back all 10 shots on goal in helping the Geoducks to a 0-0 overtime tie with NCAA Division III foe Lewis & Clark. Other nominees: Colleen Smith, College of Idaho; Jennifer Bassett, Corban; Allison Seymore, Eastern Oregon; Jessica Kuehlwein, Southern Oregon.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Warner Pacific’s Alija Sacirovic (Gresham, Ore.), a 5-8 sophomore forward, scored a goal vs. both Corban and Concordia last week as the Knights posted a 1-1 record. Other nominees: Corey Johnson, Evergreen; Luke Fischer, Northwest; Tyler Camp, Concordia.
Defensive – Concordia’s Claudio Lazar (Ploiesti, Romania), a 6-0 junior goalkeeper, recorded four saves and allowed just one goal while facing 13 shots in a 2-1 victory over Warner Pacific. Other nominees: Aaron Franklin, Corban; Kyle Wall, Northwest.
Volleyball
Hitter – Eastern Oregon’s Jessica Lea (Prineville, Ore.), a 5-8 sophomore, totaled 25 kills, 42 assists and 11 digs to help the Mountaineers to a split of their league games vs. Concordia and Warner Pacific. Other nominees: Kathryn Ely, College of Idaho; Chandra Baskoro, Corban; Joey Larsen, Oregon Tech; Leah Bergstrom, Southern Oregon; Mariana Toscano, Concordia; Sam Kolakowski, Warner Pacific.
Setter – College of Idaho’s Madie Machurek (Eagle, Idaho), a 5-4 junior, had an outstanding weekend as the eighth-ranked Yotes posted 3-0 victories over Warner Pacific and Concordia; Machurek had 60 assists, 16 digs and two service aces. Other nominees: Karisa Calderon, Corban; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Meghan De La Rosa, Evergreen; Angela Spieker, Southern Oregon; Skyler Kamaka, Concordia.
Libero – Southern Oregon’s Corynn Jorgensen (Roseburg, Ore.), a 5-6 senior, registered 36 digs as a fill-in at libero to help the Raiders to CCC victories over Northwest and Evergreen. Other nominees: Kim Lindow, Concordia; Rebecca Franke, Corban; Kaitlyn Duncan, Eastern Oregon; Whitney Owen, College of Idaho; Mercedes LeClaire, Northwest Christian.
Cross Country
Men – Southern Oregon’s David Laney (Portland, Ore.), a junior, placed first overall at the Humboldt State Invitational to help the Raiders to the team title. Laney clocked a time of 25:25 over the 8,000-meter course. Other nominees: Jessy Brown, Concordia; Brian Rakestraw, Evergreen; Caleb Goins, Corban; Kody Coxen, Eastern Oregon; Karim Shakalia, Warner Pacific; Seth Bridges, Northwest.
Women – Concordia’s Alice Taylor (Auckland, New Zealand), a sophomore, set a course record at the Northwest Christian Invitational, winning the 5,000-meter race at Dorris Ranch in Springfield by 14 seconds (17:44). Other nominees: Kayla Perry, Warner Pacific; Amy Renfro, Corban; Karlee Coffey, Eastern Oregon.
Golf
Men – Corban’s Joey Duwe (Kingston, Wash.), a sophomore, captured his first collegiate title when he drained a birdie putt on the final hole to win the Beacon Classic hosted by Northwest Christian. Earlier in the week, he finished second among all CCC competitors at the Warner Pacific Invitational. Other nominees: Tyler Thurston, College of Idaho; Brent McKee, Northwest Christian; Jonny Miller, Concordia.
Women – Concordia’s Madeline Jarrett (Portland, Ore.), a sophomore, placed second overall in her first collegiate tournament with Concordia. Jarrett placed second overall with an eight-over 152 to help the Cavs to the team title at the Warner Pacific Invitational. Other nominees: Cecilia Garcia, College of Idaho; Hailey Thomas, Corban.
