EUGENE, Ore. – A near double-double from junior outside hitter Cassie Bishop fueled the Northwest Christian University volleyball team to victory on Tuesday evening as the Beacons grabbed a 25-17, 25-21, 25-21 victory over Simpson University.

Head Coach Mike Gaffaney said, “It’s great to have a win. They took us to four sets last week and our goal was to get it done in three tonight and we were able to do that, which was great.”

Bishop hit .222 in the match collecting a match-high 12 kills, along with nine digs. As a team, Northwest Christian (4-9) hit .139, their best collective hitting percentage in nine matches, dating back to an August 28th win over Bethany University.

The Beacons also had a strong performance from Whitney Hoff. The starting setter had 15 assists and five digs on the night, along with a pair of service aces. Tessa Greatwood added eight kills and Mercedes Leclaire added 17 digs.

Simpson (0-8) was led by Kelly Brown who collected seven kills, 11 digs, and five blocks. As a team, Simpson out-blocked the Beacons, 6-2. Jenna Chandler added four blocks and five kills while Nicole Eileen led the team with eight kills, adding twelve digs.

“We really needed this match,” said Gaffaney, “to carry us into the weekend. We have a tough pair of conference matches so it’s nice to go in with a win, primed to play our best.”

NCU will play host to #16 Southern Oregon on Friday night before facing Oregon Tech on Saturday. The Friday evening tilt is scheduled for 7:00 while the Saturday first-serve will be at 5:00 pm.
