The Southern Oregon women's soccer team opens up Cascade Conference play Friday at home against Oregon Tech.

The match between the two rivals starts at 1 p.m. at University Field.

Southern Oregon went through non-conference play with a 2-5-1 record, but the two wins were impressive ones. The Raiders knocked off NCAA Division II Western Oregon and also beat 21st-ranked Rocky Mountain.

"I'm very confident in our team," SOU head coach Jon Clement said. "We have good players who are starting to find their range and get their feet under them a bit. We are still needing to be more consistent, but I know that will come with time."

SOU sophomore Denise Powell has been a bright light for the Raiders, scoring four goals on the season. The Raiders should be getting sophomore Sara Switzer back into the lineup more as she continues to rebound from injury.

"Our fitness is better now," Clement said. "Particularly with the recent run of overtime matches, I feel as though we can play at a high tempo for longer."

The Raiders and Oregon Tech have already faced each other once this year, with the Owls scoring a 2-1 victory.

"OIT always presents a still challenge," Clement said. "They're very hard working and have some dangerous players. It should be an exciting game for sure."
