LA GRANDE, Ore -- The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team opened the 2009 Cascade Collegiate Conference schedule with a 3-2 overtime victory over Northwest University Friday.

EOU's Courtney Gaskell scored her second goal of the contest in the extra period to give the Mountaineers their first win of the season. The winning goal, with assist from Lauren Robideau, came just 49 seconds into overtime.

Eastern outshot the Eagles, 20-17, and had 14 shots on goal compared to Northwest's eight.

Gaskell opened the scoring 1:57 into the match off an assist from Tennly-Paul Bowden. Exactly 20 minutes later Gaskell would give Lori Wilson an assit that led to an EOU score.

Northwest's Abby Brauer found the back of the Mountaineer net at the 32nd mark off of a penalty kick. Yanet Candido had an unassisted score in the 77th minute.

Eastern Oregon returns to the field Saturday when it hosts The Evergreen State College at 2 p.m.
