Second-Half Spree Spurs Concordia against Corban
PORTLAND, Ore.—Holding a 1-0 lead at the half, Concordia erupted for four goals in an 18-minute span in the second period to defeat Corban 5-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s soccer action at Delta Park on Friday night.
With the win, No.5-ranked Concordia improved to 8-1-0 on the year while Corban fell to 3-5-2. The contest represented the conference opener for both squads.
The two teams combined for 15 shots in the first half with CU’s Kaityn Tebbs (Bend, Ore.) provided the lone score in the first 45 minutes after turning on a ball played in by teammate Sami Andrews (Camas, Wash.) in the 28th minute.
After outshooting Corban 11-to-4 in the opening stanza, Concordia widened the margin in the second with a 15-to-2 output to finish with a 26-to-6 edge.
The Cavaliers converted four of those attempts with Shelby Bloodworth (Vancouver, Wash.) netting her sixth score of the season in the 67th minute of action.
Ten minutes later, Tebbs notched her second score of the day with a score off a corner kick provided by Angie Turner (Salem, Ore.) to boost the score to 3-0.
At the 84:23 mark, Kelton McFadden (Boise, Idaho) fired a 25-yard line drive which sailed into the net to extend the Cavalier lead. Twenty-seven seconds later, Jessica Ramback (Mill Creek, Wash.) found the back of the net for CU’s fifth goal of the day with an unassisted blast from 15 yards out.
Georgie Christensen (Hillsboro, Ore.) tallied three saves in the win with Tori Talbutt (Boise, Idaho) posted one save in closing out the shutout for the Cavs. Warrior keeper Jennifer Bassett (Keizer, Ore.) notched seven saves in the loss. Kacie Emerick (Bellingham, Wash.) and Jessica Mathews (Yelm, Wash.) each had two shot attempts for Corban.
Concordia returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Northwest Christian at 6 p.m. at Delta Park. Corban will travel to face Warner Pacific tomorrow for a CCC match which will also start at 6 p.m.
