ASHLAND, ORE - Oregon Tech’s Lisel Frazier scored less than five minutes into the match and it proved to be enough as the Owls opened Cascade Conference play with a 1-0 victory over Southern Oregon.

Oregon Tech improved to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in Cascade Conference play. Southern Oregon dropped to 2-6-1 overall and 0-1 in conference action. Southern Oregon hosts the College of Idaho next Friday.

Frazier’s goal came at 5:50 and after an eventful corner kick.

OIT’s Brooke Cole put the ball in play with a corner kick and after the ball bounced off a couple SOU players, Frazier put the ball into the net from a nearly impossible angle along the end line.

After that the Raiders had plenty of chances, coming away with an 18-6 advantage in shots - including 13 in the second period.

At the 75 minute mark, SOU’s Alexis Mahoney nearly tied the match with a shot that bounced off the post and at the 88 minute mark, Stephanie Carr hit the crossbar.

Denise Powell led the SOU attack with five shots and three shots on goal. Stacy Szeto had two shots on goal.

“I’m disappointed with the result, but not all disappointed with the way we played,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said. “We fought hard, we were driving the game for most it and we had our chances.”
