RESULTS

PHOENIX, Ariz.—Recording a 1-under 71 for the first under-par score in school history, Concordia senior Lindsay Aho finished the first round of play at the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational tied for third place.

Aho carded a 1-under 71 at the Coldwater Golf Course to finish the day in a four-way tie for third place. Aho held the previous school record with an even-par 72 in the third and final round of the College of Idaho Invite last fall.

Two strokes back, Concordia sophomore fired a career-best 1-over 73 to finish the round in a tie for ninth place.

As a team, the Cavaliers carded an 11-over 299 to enter the clubhouse in seventh place. Defending Big Sky Conference champions and NCAA Division I school Northern Arizona grabbed an eight-stroke lead after the first day with a 3-under 285. NCAA Division II schools took the next four spots in the team standings with Grand Canyon (5-over 293) in second, Western Washington (8-over 296) and CSU Monterey Bay (8-over 296) tied for third, and Sonoma State (1-over 298) tied for fifth with the NAIA’s California Baptist (10-over 298).

Ca Baptist tied for third at last year’s NAIA Championships while Concordia finished in seventh place at nationals. The Cavaliers hold a four-stroke advantage over Southern Nazarene and the Academy of Art as both schools posted a 15-over 303.

Rounding out the Concordia scorers were Madeline Jarrett (5-over 77) and Kim Lindow (6-over 78). Sara Taylor finished out the CU quintet with an 8-over 80.

Northern Arizona’s Alexa Kim and Grand Canyon’s Jennifer Lutz shared the first-round lead with 3-under 69s.

The Grand Canyon Invitational continues on Tuesday with a final round of 18 holes at the Coldwater Golf Course.
