Cavs Maintain Seventh Place at Grand Canyon Invite
FINAL RESULTS
PHOENIX, Ariz.—After finishing the first round in seventh place yesterday, Concordia doubled its gap over the next competitor but could not close ground on the rest of the field to finish in seventh at the Grand Canyon Invitational.
Concordia (299-303—602) came back with a 15-over 303 after firing a 299 on Monday to hold onto to seventh place out of 19 teams. Northern Arizona (285-295—580) ran away with the team title with a 14-stroke win over Cal Baptist (398-396—594).
The third-place finisher at last season’s NAIA Championships, Cal Baptist jumped from a tie for fifth to a tie for second with CSU Monterey Bay (296-298—594). Sonoma State (298-298—596) carded back-to-back 298s to tie for fourth with Western Washington (296-300—596). The host team from Grand Canyon (293-306—599) dropped from second to sixth place in the second round.
A day after hitting a school-record 1-under 71, Lindsay Aho (71-73—1 44) placed fifth overall out of 90 individuals. Holly Speer (73-76—149) fell seven spots to 16th as CU’s No. 2 golfer. With consecutive 77s, Madeline Jarrett (77-77—154) improved to positions to 37th place while Sara Taylor (80-77—157) jumped seven places to 50th. Kim Lindow (78-86—156) rounded out the Cavalier group in 69th place.
Northern Arizona’s Stephanie Kim (71-71—142) leaped over teammate Alexa Kim (69-74—143) to take medalist honors. Kim tied for second place with Wayland Baptist’s Charlotte Guilleux (73-70—143).
Concordia returns to action on Oct. 5 when it hosts the Cavalier Classic at Heron Lakes Golf Course in Portland.
