Eagles Defeated by #3 Cal Baptist
IRVINE, Calif. – The NU Eagles ran into another ranked team this morning and fell to #3 Cal Baptist in the Asics Crowne Plaza Tournament at Concordia University, 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-21) in Southern California.
Lauren Holtz led the Eagles (2-5, 1-0) with 4 kills and 5 defensive digs while teammate Lauryn Ernster had 11 assists. Sophomore Anu Akamine had 8 digs for the Eagles.
Cal Baptist (6-0) was led by Ingrid Carmona’s 12 kills. Danielle Sargant had a game high 25 assists and her teammate, Krista Hasemeyer added another 15. Sargant also had 10 digs for CBU.
“The first game was a little ugly, but we came back and fought hard in the next two games,” commented NU Coach Jessie Dietrich following the match. “We played well and made them beat us.”
NU now faces #20 Biola from the tough GSAC (Gold State Athletic Conference) today at 5 p.m. in their second match of the day. The tournament is loaded with tough competition which includes #1 Fresno Pacific, #2 Concordia (CA), #3 Cal Baptist, #4 Azusa Pacific, #8 Pt. Loma and #17 Indiana Tech.
