Eagles Battle Back to Tie Whitman
WALLA WALLA, Wash.- The NU Eagle women, down 3-0 at the half, scored three second half goals to come from behind and earn a 3-3 tie with Whitman College late this afternoon.
Two freshmen and a sophomore scored the goals for the Eagles (0-2-1) as Lizzie Perkins (Fresh., Seattle, Wash.) and Chelsi Pennington (Fresh., Kent, Wash.) scored their first collegiate goals. Sophomore Julia Johnson (Ottawa, Ill.) also got on the scoreboard for the blue and gold for her first college goal.
"We came out rather flat and a little soft in the first half and allowed some easy goals," commented Eagle Head Coach Erin Redwine. "We talked it over at halftime and made some adjustments and the team came out ready to play in the second half. Lizzie had an outstanding game and brought a lot of energy at forward," Redwine continued. "Abby Brauer was probably our player of the game and was a physical presence at midfield and set up some good passing connections and combination plays for us. We overcame a huge mental battle and it feels like a win even though the game ended in a tie," she concluded.
The Eagles will remain in Walla Walla tonight and play Walla Walla CC in a scrimmage tomorrow before returning to Kirkland.
