Raiders Knock Off No. 21 Rocky Mountain
HELENA, MONT. -- The Southern Oregon women's soccer team scored an impressive 2-1 victory over 21st-ranked Rocky Mountain College today in Helena, Mont.
The Raiders are now 1-2-1 on the season and with the victory scored the program's first-ever road victory over a ranked team.
"I'm very proud of our entire team," SOU head coach Jon Clement said. "We received production from everyone and displayed some personality today. This has been a long road trip and the team stepped up today."
Southern Oregon got on the board early as Denise Powell reached the net for the third time this year to give SOU a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Bears tied the match at 1-1 but freshman Renay Norman scored an unassisted goal in the 70th minute and the SOU defense held to make that the game winner.
"It was a stellar effort," Clement said. "We fought really hard together today and we displayed some nice passing in the center of the field that helped us set up our offense."
The Raiders wrap up their road trip to Idaho and Montana Sunday when they face Carroll College in Helena, Mont.
