COSTA MESA, Calif.-  Westminster (Utah) defeated the NU Eagle in four games, 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-22, 25-15) as play continued this morning in The Pit at Vanguard University  in the Asics Crowne Plaza Tournament hosted by Concordia University (CA).

Sophomores Lauren Holtz (Brier, Wash.) and Anu Akamine (Hauula, Hawaii) led the Eagles (2-7, 1-0) with 10 kills a piece. Holtz added a team high 20 defensive digs and Akamine added 16. Lauryn Ernster (Fresh., Bothell, Wash.) had 31 assists for NU and freshman Breanna Covey (Arlington, Wash.) totaled 19 digs.

Teammates Eicka Evans and Talita Kresser tied for team and game high kills for Westminster (4-7) from Salt Lake City, with 14 kills each. Megan Evans had a game high 32 assists and Tanie Blymiller led the team with 19 digs.

“We fought hard for two games but it was not enough,” stated Coach Jessie Dietrich. “Unfortunately, we let down too much and could not recover.”

Northwest U. complete play tonight at 7:00 p.m. against Cornerstone University of Michigan at Concordia.
