NAIA Top 25: 3 CCC Teams in Weekly Polls
Three Cascade Collegiate Conference programs in the sports of volleyball and women's soccer are ranked among the Top 25 in their respective polls, the NAIA office announced Tuesday.
NAIA Volleyball: C of I Jumps to No. 11, Southern Oregon Climbs to No. 21
KANSAS CITY – College of Idaho vaulted seven spots to the No. 11 position and Southern Oregon was one of five new teams joining the Top 25, according to first regular season NAIA volleyball poll released Tuesday.
The two teams will square off in Caldwell, Idaho Saturday night. C of I and SOU have combined to win every CCC regular season crown since 2003.
The Yotes (5-1, 2-0 Cascade Collegiate Conference) and Raiders (8-1, 2-0 CCC) share first place in the CCC, along with Eastern Oregon, which received votes in the poll but did not crack the Top 25. Southern Oregon, which was No. 26 in the NAIA’s preseason poll, moved up to the No. 21 position.
College of Idaho’s only loss this season came at the hands of No. 2-ranked Concordia-Irvine, which held off the Yotes in a close, 3-2 match in August. Southern Oregon’s only loss came Aug. 21 to No. 1-ranked Fresno Pacific.
NAIA Women’s Soccer: Unbeaten Concordia Holds Down No. 2 Ranking
KANSAS CITY – Concordia University, which has won its first five matches – including an incredible 3-2 comeback win over University of Victoria last week – has retained its hold on the No. 2 position in the NAIA women’s soccer poll, the national office announced.
The Cavs, last year’s NAIA runner-up, garnered four more first-place votes (11 to 7) than top-ranked Cal Baptist, but CBU held a one-point edge (605 to 604) in total poll points.
Concordia, which has games vs. Rocky Mountain College and 18th-ranked Carroll College on tap this week, has outscored its opposition 14-4 while recording two shutouts. Last week, Concordia scored two goals in the final 90 seconds to register a thrilling 3-2 victory over University of Victoria.
College of Idaho, which is off to a 2-1 start, including a 3-2 loss to Carroll and a 2-1 win over preseason No. 21 Rocky Mountain College, is ranked 26th.
